There were many trends on the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday, but one of the most ubiquitous was flesh tones. Rule of thumb, get a tan if you are pale and going this route.
The first offender, though her dress was more white than flesh tone, was Anne Hathaway.
Oh Anne, I’ve never really liked your style. Your goofy grin, which falls short of being charming like Julia Roberts’s. Your mousey, brown hair. Your waifish body. But you are a fine actress, so I must tolerate you. But this dress was pretty blah and came across as more of a destination bride look than a red carpet success.
Next, we have Amy Adams. Here blush dress was, well, kind of weird. Let’s not play the fishtail game here. You know who looks good in mermaid dresses? Jennifer Lopez. You know why? Because she has hips that balance out the bottom. I myself am a fan of this silhouette … on some people. On Amy, it just showcased her boxy upper body though. And while she looks like she did try to add a little bronzer, the dress just does not pop as it should.
And then there was Kerri Washington. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t even try to like this. The dress would have been gorgeous if it had not stopped and just been overlay in the front. Also, what is up with the hair? The bangs with the long hair with that dress collar were just too much. Someone should have told her to put her hair up and stop it withthe boxy shapes already. And oh yeah, someone give this woman a sandwich.
There were a few who did this trend justice though. Amanda Seyfried went all out romantic with long, loose waves and a dress reminiscent of a night-gown, but it worked. She chose a path and stuck to it. Another success? Jennifer Lopez. But then again, the woman can really do no wrong.
While they were standouts in a room full nude wrongs, there were other losers too.
The creator of “Girls” wore what looked to be the equivalent of what a plus-sized prom dress may have looked like in the 1990s.
While Halle Berry wore a festive version of what looks like the same dress she’s worn a million times before.
I do have a heart though and there were some winners in the fashion realm. Enter Clair Danes and Rosario Dawson. Both were perfection.
