It’s official, it’s 2014. My New Year’s Eve was decidedly more low-key than usual and it was pretty great. Dinner at my favorite restaurant – shout out to Chef Geoff’s! And then some champagne and watching the ball drop. In years past I’ve celebrated by partying at a club in DC.
So how did I wear my hair for the night? Well, I began by cowashing yesterday morning before work with Miss Jessie Creme De La Creme. I then used Dark and Lovely Au Naturale Curl Defining Creme Glaze and diffused in sections. For the night though, I wanted a looser curl. With little time to try anything new, I decided to try banding my hair to stretch it. I am a fan of banding and always do it when I am straightening my hair.
Banding is simply the practice of sectioning hair off and putting a bunch of hair elastics on each section to stretch out the hair. It works people! For my New Year’s look I took my curls and banded off three sections, seen in the second picture below.
I kept these in for about two hours and then removed them. Next I applied Miss Jessie’s Curly Buttercreme. As you can see, the curl pattern is definitely looser after I’ve done the process. It’s a great way to combat shrinkage if you’re in a hurry and want elongation.
