Right now I am reading #GIRLBOSS, a book by Sophia Amoruso, founder and CEO of Nasty Gal, an online clothing store. Amoruso started buying and selling vintage clothing on ebay in 2006 and within three years the business had grown to an all out style destination.
I’m not finished with the book yet, but so far the message that is coming through is “Grind and you’ll succeed.” Sophia did EVERYTHING to start her business. She designed the first website, she took pictures of the clothes, she sought out models and even modeled herself when necessary. As I read I think, “Am I doing enough?” Am I doing enough at work? Am I doing enough at church? Am I doing enough at home? The answer is probably yes, but I could also probably do more. I don’t want to just do enough. Sophia didn’t always excel though, nope she was once a screw up. I was never a screw up, so where are my millions? But that’s neither here nor there.
A great thing about this book is that Amoruso also goes into the stories of the women she selected to work at Nasty Gal and surround herself with. This is notable because there is no rivalry between the women, just an all-around passion for fashion and belief in the company.
