To pre-poo is to apply a conditioning treatment to the hair before shampooing or washing. The point of pre-pooing is to add moisture to the hair at the follicle and root. So does it work?
Until very recently I was actually a natural who did not believe there was much value in pre-pooing. I only tried it this winter once I discovered a product from Burt’s Bees – Burt’s Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment. Now I pre-poo solely with this product. I have to admit that pre-pooing does seem to help retain moisture. To pre-poo I massage the hair treatment into my scalp and rinse before applying my shampoo or conditioner if I am co-washing.
You definitely do not have to use a product designated for the task though. Other pre-poo agents include protein treatments, natural oils, and honey.
